18" x 24"
acrylic & mixed media on stretched canvas
april.2010.

i came up with this idea months and months ago but it took me a while to find enough nails lying around. it was originally also supposed to be vertical with the nails on the right side but as i was painting the edges of the canvas last night i turned it over this way and it just worked so much better!

i'll be submitting this one to the Damned show this fall

Excellent work and superb initial concept! Really love these cracked pieces of art you are creating these days.
What I want to know is what kind of animal did provide their spine for this piece? Great to have such material in a painting! I would not mind havin' such hanging around in my place!
Keep it up! :D

turkey dinner provided the spines. i have bags of various turkey and chicken bones that i've been cleaning and saving over the years :giggle:

Ohh! thats cool as hell, it have always tickled my mind to save up on chicken bones, would be so cool to make a larger sized sculpture of bones! Not many people think about what kinda cool bones chickens and turkey's actually consists of! And this artwork shows that they should get their minds straight and start using the stuff :D

WOW This is amazing!
There's something darkly erotic about this piece!
And the way the colors work with the textures it also has a decaying feel!
Very nice concept :)
Plus i don't know if it was intentional, but this and "signs of war" have a definate themed concept going on. I just imagined a gallery or loft filled with these kind of pieces and it was incredibly beautiful!
Just a thought!

you're right, they are rather similar in theme and feeling. must be the mental state i've been in lately! i'd love to see a gallery filled with them! it's a dream i'm slowly working toward. for now i'm content with keeping them hanging on my bedroom wall :D

thanks! i'm glad you like this!
